Couples often ask me for devotional resource suggestions. So I bring one suited for individual or couple devotions and one aimed at fostering a grateful life.

Ann Voskamp wrote One Thousand Gifts Devotional: Reflections on Finding Everyday Graces in 2012. It followed her popular book, One Thousand Gifts.

Ann’s journey into intentional, regular, and frequent gratitude began in 2008. In the introduction of her devotional book, she writes, “A friend dared me to start counting one thousand things I loved. I took the dare, accepted the challenge, kept track of one thousand things, one thousand gifts- on a quiet, unassuming blog. Before I knew it, thankfulness to God began to fully change me.

“What I actually found-startling!-was more daily wonder and surprising beauty than I ever expected. And in a few short years, this daily hunt for God’s grace, His glory, had ushered me into a fuller life. A life of joy!” (pg. 9)

If you, as a couple, sense the need to develop your attitude of gratitude, I commend Voskamp’s devotional book. Following her 60 devotional thoughts will kick-start your journey into fuller life.

Think about this: we human beings find it difficult to hold both gratitude and worry, gratitude and doubt, or gratitude and anger. But, as Voskamp said (in the video link provided), “offering Him thanks for each and every moment . . . is how you live your one life well!”

There’s no better time than now to begin your gratitude journey. Ann Voskamp can lead you because she’s familiar with the path.
